KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs safety Eric Berry signed his franchise tender and reported to camp Sunday, though he is almost certain to miss Kansas Citys preseason finale against Green Bay this week.Berry was given the franchise tag early in the offseason but had not signed the deal, which means he could skip all of training camp without being fined. The deal will pay him just over $10.8 million this season, making him the leagues highest-paid safety.Kansas City plays its first regular-season game Sept. 11 against San Diego.Berry played in every game last season, less than a year after he was diagnosed with cancer. He made 55 tackles, a pair of interceptions and resumed his role as the heart and soul of the defense.I said, `You dont count the fish till its in the boat. So, fish is in the boat, right? coach Andy Reid said. Hes here. Its good to have him back. Hes got a smile on his face, and hes ready to go. Thats the important thing that we get him back in, and get him going and get him into football shape now. Hes in great shape, but just get him into football shape.Berry probably wont play in Thursdays preseason finale.Well likely just give him time within practice to get himself ready for the opener, Reid said. The Chiefs had hoped to sign Berry to a long-term deal in the offseason, but the two sides were never close to reaching an agreement by the July 15 deadline. The Chiefs remain optimistic they can sign him after this season, though Berry will demand a premium on the free-agent market. It was somewhat surprising that the sides were so far apart, given the goodwill between them. The Chiefs stood by Berry when he was diagnosed with lymphoma, and general manager John Dorsey and others in the front office regularly visited him in Atlanta during treatment. Meanwhile, Berry has been steadfast in his love for the Chiefs, who made him a first-round pick out of Tennessee.Berry played in every game last season, less than a year after his cancer diagnosis. Some have questioned whether Mourinhos perceived style of play will satisfy United fans who crave attacking and stylish football but Carrick does not think that will be a problem and believes winning is more important. The 34-year-olds contract is set to expire this summer but he is hopeful he will figure in Mourinhos plans for the future and believes, despite that reservation in some quarters, that the Portuguese is a good fit for the club. Carrick says winning is more important for Manchester United than style under Mourinho There is going to be change, without doubt. He is coming in and he is his own man, hes got an unbelievable track record and obviously everyone is looking for quick results and thats how it is, Carrick told Sky Sports News HQ.Im not sure exactly the situation of who he is bringing in or anything like that just yet, we will have to wait and see on that one. Lampard backs Jose at Man Utd Frank Lampard has tipped Jose Mourinho to be a success at Manchester United I think his track record speaks for itself, I think it is a good fit. It is about winning at the end of the day. I know there is a lot of talk about styles - play this way, play that way, but it is about winning. You have to be No 1, you have to be winning trophies, and if you can do that witth a bit of style and a bit of flair then obviously thats the perfect match but, first and foremost, it is about winning and getting back on top.dddddddddddd. Mourinho will take charge of Manchester United next season Carrick thinks his United team-mate Marcus Rashford has a great chance of making Roy Hodgsons final England squad for Euro 2016 after the young striker took just 138 seconds to score on his senior international debut in the 2-1 win over Australia. However, Carrick, who has won 34 caps for England, thinks the 18-year-old has a big future in the national side, even if he misses out on this summers tournament in France.First and foremost it has been an incredible six months for him and he has given himself every chance, Carrick said. What more could he have done to give the manager a headache or to put himself forward? Marcus Rashford scored on his England debut against Australia Hes such a nice lad, so down to earth and grounded which is great to see and I hope, for his sake, he goes and does well, and Im sure he will. Hes got all the attributes to do well.Even if it is not this one, I have said to him hes got such a big future ahead of him, such a long career that almost anything he gets now is a bonus for him, its not what he expected, so well see how it goes.
