Indianapolis-based Rob Mullett is a British 3,000 metre steeplechaser at his first Olympic Games. He has been staying at the Team GB training camp in Belo Horizonte before he competes in his heat in Rio on Monday. He gives the inside track on life as an athlete in Brazil, on the day the track and field action begins:If preparations are anything to go by, there could be quite a few more great medal days for Team GB to come.At the training camp, at least, things have been pretty much ideal. Everything has been thought of and the mood has been sociable and relaxed. In fact, it has felt a lot like a regular European set up for me, so I hope it is not too much of a shock when I get to Rio.I know what youre thinking: they all say that -- I dont believe him. Well, you should, because if things were rubbish I would have no problem at all saying so. It just really has been good up here. I havent even heard of anyone picking up an injury and with the number of people who have been through, the odds were high that someone would have a problem.Weve got nice, quiet accommodation, the track we train on is pretty new and only about a mile away from our hotel. Us runners have had a lake nearby to run round, too, a handy 11.5-mile circuit. The only thing anyone has had a gripe about is the desserts, which have been fruit, fruit or, er, fruit. Weve had fairly standard fare for meals - pasta and sauce, rice, the usual - and that has provided decent fuel for training, but there have been some serious cheesecake cravings for some of the people who have stayed here.People might be a bit surprised but athletes can have a sweet tooth too, and if they dont overdo it, its ok once in a while.Cheesecake isnt my thing particularly but I have been encouraged by rumours of free McDonalds in the athletes village. A lot of us like an occasional splurge there (when people sometimes do go a bit over the top!), so we better not have been given false hope. The mood has been upbeat all week and it is a good set-up in a nice location. The locals are friendly, saying hi or hitting their car horns when they see us out running in Team GB kit. There have been a few football matches up here, too, which has made it a proper Games venue. Its not too sanitised either and getting out to train has ensured that has been the case for me, giving me a real feeling of being in Brazil. The capybaras around the lake have also helped with that; they are funny-looking large rodents, a bit like giant guinea pigs, and there are loads of them there. Are they dangerous? I dont think so. They dont seem bothered by people, anyway, and the fishermen around the lake are equally unfussed by them.Inside the camp, weve been keeping an eye on events at the Games from our lounge, which has all the BBC channels available on several screens and a load of sofas. The event that seemed to capture a lot of peoples attention was the womens road race last weekend, which was pretty dramatic. Lizzie Armitstead finished out of the medals and there was a nasty crash -- it kept a big group of us glued to the screens. At other down times, if were not just relaxing in our rooms, there are two swimming pools, pool tables and computer games for people to play. Lots to occupy yourself away from training. The British Olympic Association also put on a separate opening ceremony celebration for the athletes at a big sports club in the city centre. They got everyone together in the same clothes that the guys wore in Rio and we had a nice evening watching events on a projector screen. The BOA has been trying to emphasize one team and I can say 100 percent theyve done a great job of integrating the different sports as much as possible. A few of the bigger names havent been in: Mo Farah, Jess Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford. I suppose they might have missed out a little bit, but they have been to Olympics before and know what works best for them. All I have had to worry about really is competing, and Im a pretty relaxed about that at the moment. My family and girlfriend get into Brazil on Saturday, when I will have arrived in the athletes village, and Im really looking forward seeing them. Its all pretty exciting.I will find out who I am up against over the weekend and my coach will be here to help me plan my race. Ive got my sights firmly set on the final and cant wait to get going. Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. Coach Mike Munchak says Fokou stretched ligaments in his left knee Oct. 13 against Seattle, which could keep out up to five weeks even though the linebacker didnt need surgery. The Atlantic Coast Conference is off to one of its strongest starts in league history.Often maligned as the weakest of the Power Five leagues, the ACC has three teams ranked in the top 10 , tied with the Big Ten for the most. Its 17-5 record in non-conference games is the third-best start in ACC history. The conference, and two of its biggest stars, will take center stage in college football on Saturday at noon when second-ranked Florida State (2-0) and No. 10 Louisville (2-0, 1-0 ACC) meet in Kentucky. Its the first meeting of two top 10 teams from the ACC since Florida State and Miami in 2013.I think its critical, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said of what the showdown means to the ACC. It adds to ... credibility. The game feature Florida State redshirt freshman quarterback Deondre Francois and Louisvilles dual-threat dynamo Lamar Jackson, who has put his name into early Heisman Trophy talk with 13 touchdowns in two record-setting games.Jackson was responsible for eight touchdowns by halftime in the Cardinals season-opening win against Charlotte, and followed that up by running for four scores and passing for another in a 62-28 victory at Syracuse . With 411 passing yards and 199 rushing yards against the Orange, he became just the second 400-150 player in FBS history.Francois, in his first start for the Seminoles, had 478 yards of offense in guiding Florida State to its largest come-from-behind victory in a 45-34 triumph against No. 19 Mississippi. In a league that has been recently viewed as Florida State, Clemson and everyone else, Fisher believes its time for people outside the ACC to take another look and realize other teams in the league can compete with everyone. The Seminoles beat Auburn for the 2013 national championship. Clemson made the title game last season, losing to Alabama, but Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson was a prominent name in early Heisman talk this year as well.It is great, great football in the ACC and Im glad that people are starting to see it, Fisher said. He said some of the perspective of ACC football is based on the leagues reputation that took hold long ago and is difficult to shake.I just think its something that over time has been ingrained and it will taake time to get it out, he said.ddddddddddddSeminoles center Alec Eberle grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia, at a time when Virginia Tech was the leagues marquee program. The Hokies won four championships in their first seven years in the league, from 2004-10, but numerous teams have shown improvement since.Over the last couple years, the ACC has come up so much in the football world, Eberle said. Florida State was up there and Virginia Tech, but now Louisville, UNC is getting real big, Duke has gotten better over the years. Its awesome knowing the ACC is competing at this higher level.Clemson (2011, 2015) and Florida State (2012-14) have combined to win the last five league championships, but in the past four seasons, Georgia Tech has reached the title game twice, Duke and North Carolina once each. Its definitely improving, definitely on the rise, Louisville wide receiver Jamari Staples said. Id say the ACC is one of the strongest. There are so many teams that can just pop out of nowhere. Wake Forest is 2-0. Who knows where theyll be at the end of the season? Its a hard conference to play in. Youve got to work hard to win.The 2-0 start for the Demon Deacons includes a 24-14 victory at Duke last weekend, their first road victory against any of the other three North Carolina schools in the conference since they won at Duke of October 2011.Third-year coach Dave Clawson cautioned against making too much of the victory, but is optimistic.I dont want to make it bigger than it was, he said. It was a big win for our program. ... But in terms of validating what we did, it is still a work in progress. It only means something if we can carry it through and keep improving and win more games.Sounds like a microcosm of the ACCs strong start.---AP sports writers Joe Reedy in Tallahassee, Florida, Gary Graves in Louisville, Kentucky, and Joedy McCreary in Winston-Salem contributed.---Online: The APs college football page: http://collegfootball.ap.org---Follow Hank on Twitter: www.twitter.com/hankkurzjr and his work can be found at: http://bigstory.ap.org/content/hank-kurz-jr ' ' '
